Qatar Airways Baggage Allowance

Qatar Airways is the flag carrier of Qatar and has its headquarters in Doha, in Qatar Airways Tower. It operates a hub and spoke network, and operates flights to about 100 international destinations from its base in Doha. Qatar Airways has a fleet of over 100 aircrafts. Qatar Airways was founded in 1993, and started its operations in 1994. Qatar Airways is owned by the royal family of Qatar. In 2003, Qatar Airways made a huge leap forward when it became the first airline in the world to pass IATA’s new stringent safety audit. Qatar Airways is the sixth airline in the world to receive a five star rating by Skytrax along with Asiana Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines. Qatar Airlines employs 20,000 people.

Like every other airline Qatar Airways permits passengers to carry a certain weight of baggage with them. For people’s safety, Qatar Airways enforces the latest carry on allowances. For all classes passengers can check in 2 bags with restricted weights. For economy class it is 23 kg and for business and first class it is 33 kg. There are baggage dimension restrictions which are enforced which are that the length, width and height of a bag must be less than 158 cm. passengers who carry any excess baggage have to pay additional charges which are collected at the time of check in. Qatar Airways applies the International Civil Aviation Organization restrictions for carrying certain items. Gels, liquids, pastes and aerosols of 100 ml must be carried in re-sealable and transparent plastic bags to 1 liter capacity. Transparent bag’s dimensions must not exceed 20 x 20 cm. Passengers are required to re-pack the baggage if their baggage exceeds the allowed weight or contains items which are not allowed in baggage.  For transatlantic flights the baggage allowance for first class passengers is 40kg, for business class it is 30kg and for economy class passengers its 23kg.

Passengers are allowed to carry certain items on board in carryon baggage. Baby food and prescribed medication is allowed. Some routes offer children discounts, children travelling on child fare are entitled to the same baggage allowances as adults.  Infants are entitled to 22 lb of checked baggage; in addition a carrycot, or fully collapsible stroller and pushchair can be checked in without any extra charge.

Strict regulations and restriction are applied regarding carrying or checking in dangerous goods. If passengers intend to travel with some things like automotive parts, aerosol cans, diagnostic specimen, camping equipment, compressed gas and flammable liquids, dental equipments, diving equipments, gas bottles have to empty, dry ice, drilling and mining equipments, fireworks, electrical equipments, expeditionary equipments, frozen embryos, gas cylinders, instruments containing mercury, household goods, aerosols, paints, flammable liquids, household cleaning agents, photographic equipment, paint, repair kit, racing car equipments, tool boxes, wet cell batteries and vaccines they must contact the airline’s administration and enquire if they can check in these items. The baggage rules have been renewed to ensure passengers and aircrafts safety and Qatar Airways abides by these international air safety rules.
